IRT Delivers First Battery-Electric Switcher to Launch Customer
Washington, D.C., July 26, 2023 – Innovative Rail Technologies (“IRT”), a provider of customized li-ion propulsion solutions to the locomotive rail market, has delivered its first battery-electric switcher locomotive for operational use.
IRT secured its first customer, a Fortune 200 industrial sector corporation, in 2022 with a commitment to construct and deliver two advanced li-ion, battery-electric locomotives and two automated, high-speed chargers.
IRT’s proprietary technology, ATLAS (Advanced Technology Li-Ion Adaptive System) will be used to repower existing switcher locomotives delivering Zero Emissions and unparalleled performance. ATLAS is a scalable, customizable solution that can be integrated into any existing, or new, locomotive platform. Paired with automated, high-speed charging, ATLAS-powered locomotives maintain 24/7 availability to its operators in an economically beneficial package.
IRT’s customer, to be announced publicly in the 4th Quarter of 2023, received VW Mitigation Funding and broad local and community support to begin repowering its legacy diesel locomotives. The customer will aggressively eliminate locomotive-related scope emissions in accordance with its corporate goals. Additional benefits include a 65% reduction of fuel expense and 50+% reduction in maintenance.
